However, these analyses rarely break down legitimacy by source. Because the UN is an organization with multiple identities and duties however, different legitimacy sources \u2013 in particular output and procedural legitimacy \u2013 and the UN\u2019s corresponding legitimation practices come into conflict in the context of peacekeeping.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on a range of examples and the specific case of the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC), this article argues that looking at different legitimacy sources and linking them to the institutional identity of the UN is thus critical, and it shows how the UN\u2019s contradictory legitimation practices can reduce overall legitimacy perceptions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1080\/17502977.2017.1353751\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Access to this publication.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>in: Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding, 11:3, 286-305<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2703","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-publication"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 -
