Malin Nissen is a research assistant and doctoral candidate at the Heisenberg Chair of International Relations and Transnational Politics at the University of Leipzig. Her research focuses on transnational civil society networks in the post-Soviet space.
The subject of her dissertation is the interaction of liberal and illiberal ideologies within transnational civil society networks in EU member states, accession candidates and non-aligned states against the background of Russian influence in the region. The analysis focuses on the positioning of these actors within the ideological and geopolitical ambivalence as well as the values they defend. The aim of the study is to contribute to a deeper understanding of the question of how civil society can act as a accelerator for democratic renewal and regional stability in the face of in the face of authoritarian pressure and geopolitical conflict. The Prof. Dr. Solveig Richter is supervising the doctorate.
