The DFG-funded Emmy Noether Research Group „Renewable Energies, Renewed Authoritarianisms? The Political Economy of Solar Energy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA),“ led by Dr. Benjamin Schuetze, was joined by Charlotte Müller, Elia Wehaiba El-Khazen, and Philipp Wagner. The three scholars joined the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute (ABI) in April this year as doctoral students and researchers. Together with Benjamin Schuetze, they will spend the next few years investigating how politics is driving the expansion of solar energy in the MENA region and how this is (re-)shaping established authoritarian practices.
The project now has its own website where you can find more information about the project, team, publications, past and upcoming events.
The research group has funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG), currently until 2025, with the prospect of further funding until 2028.
