Politik der Beherrschung: Eine kritische Theorie externer Demokratieförderung

Berlin: Suhrkamp

Should we actively promote processes of democratization in other parts of the world? With the end of the Cold War, liberal democracy seemed to take hold worldwide. Established democracies tried to support this process. But since the beginning of the new millennium, resistance has been stirring, and increasingly the accusation of imperialism has been raised. In her book, Dorothea Gädeke formulates for the first time normative foundations and limits of external democracy promotion. She develops a critical republican theory of justice and shows why the practice of external democracy promotion constitutes a politics of domination and how it can be overcome.
